Itinerary

Day 1: Waterfall Wanderers Day

Travel south from Queenstown and discover the majesty and beauty of north Queensland’s most iconic waterfalls, a MUST see for anyone wanting to experience pristine rainforest, cascading waterfalls, stunning panoramas of Queensland’s highest peaks and maybe a glimpse of rare and unique native wildlife. You will visit and be amazed by the legend of Babinda Boulders steeped in the aboriginal history of trapped spirits and a tragic love story that will chill you to the bone. Next …your morning swim beckons amidst the lush rainforest and cascading crystal clear water of Josephine Falls. A natural waterslide awaits the young at heart, while the spectacular backdrop provides photo opportunities and wildlife spotting. Josephine Falls is a unique opportunity to slide down a waterfall on a natural rockslide sure to make even the crankiest traveller crack a smile. Journey on to Australia’s most iconic waterfall Millaa Millaa Falls made famous by Qantas and herbal essences commercials. This 18 m single-drop waterfall lies in the heart of the Wet Tropics World Heritage-listed rainforest.

For lunch, we will take you to Australia’s largest timer pub and fill your belly with some good old-fashioned country cooking then back into the waterfalls. Mount Hypipamee, the Crater and Dinner Falls, 3 great things in one location here you will have the opportunity to take a bush walk to swim behind a waterfall and gaze into a 85-meter deep volcanic crater and if that’s not enough we quite often see the local Cassowary here too. As the afternoon starts to roll on we head to the Curtain Fig Tree 15meter high roots towering above like 3 story building here you need to keep your eyes peeled for the elusive Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo. Just before our last swim spot, we will take you down to a quiet little creek to search for Platypus and then off to our last stop of the day Lake Eacham. A dormant Volcanic Crater lake filled with turtles and surrounded by wildlife we will watch the sunset over a truly spectacular day at our last swim don’t worry about getting cold the water in here never changes temperature to 23 degrees all day and all night. Waterfall Wanderers will provide morning and afternoon tea, lunch, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and fruit throughout the day as well as heaps of games and puzzles to keep you entertained on the bus.

This was a wonderful trip to be able to see so much in just one day. The tour guide was funny, helpful, and made the experience better. This tour does involve a good bit of time on the bus but you see a lot of things and get to swim at almost every waterfall. Great way to see the high country!

Excellent tour lead by Lizzy!!! She was very friendly and very informative. She made us feel relaxed and her instructions were spot on. She gave us great advice about where to walk as far as look outs go. The sights and waterfalls were beautiful as described. You do spend a bit of time in the bus but it’s comfortable and Lizzy tried to keep the temperature to our liking. She checked in regularly to make sure we were ok. Just remember that it can be cold at lake echam if it’s raining or overcast and be prepare to get a little wet if it’s sprinkling with rain so be prepared and bring a waterproof jacket. Also bring snacks and water for the day otherwise Lizzy stopped at a spar shop for us to buy snacks but it’s best to be prepared. The drive is lovely and scenic and you will finish the tour at the time the operator tells you there are no surprises. I do recommend as the waterfalls and views are beautiful. Don’t expect to swim everywhere especially if it’s overcast or raining as the temperature will drop. Worthwhile!!!
